According to author Nikki Rajala, it is estimated that infrared heat wraps can burn up to 1,200 to 1,400 calories in a session by simply increasing the body’s metabolism through gentle infrared heat application, which explains the attraction to this method of weight loss. Far-infrared energy is believed to break down water molecules that accumulate and store unwanted toxins in the body that block blood circulation and impair cellular functions. Exposure to far infrared waves can steadily circulate blood, removing blood vessel blockages and promoting proper oxygen distribution to the body. The comforting heat from an infrared body wrap increases skin temperature, causing fats and oils to “melt” out of the skin’s sweat glands, along with the toxins stored in fat cells.

The use of lasers to treat nail fungus is not new. Researchers have been trying to use lasers to treat onychomycosis since the 1980s. The approach at that time, however, was a little different. Before newer antifungal treatments like Lamisil and Sporanox, the only oral medical treatments that existed for onychomycosis were griseofulvin and, a little later, ketoconazole. These drugs took a very long time to work, had potentially severe side effects at even modest doses, and often did not even work at all. The original application of lasers in the treatment of nail fungus was to use the laser to create holes or channels in the nail. This process, called fenestration, was meant to give topical onychomycosis treatments better access to the fungus. The laser could open up a pathway so that the medicine applied to the nail could get at the fungus and kill it.

This approach did not meet with much success. The process was expensive and did not seem to improve the topical treatment of onychomycosis to any great degree. As lasers were evolving and more widely available to physicians and surgeons, a better approach was adopted. By using a laser with a specific wavelength of laser light energy, the fungus could be targeted and killed, while leaving the skin and nail intact. Instead of making large tunnels in the nail, the light was focused on the fungus directly. In essence, the laser energy heats the fungus to the point that it is killed but does not burn the surrounding tissue.

At Enfuse Medspa of Chicago, we get a lot of questions about our hair removal services. Waxing and laser sound a lot more painful and intimidating than they really need to be—for the most part, hair removal is something that doesn’t have to be painful—even when using permanent hair removal methods. But it’s also important to choose the right service based on your body and skin type and also your overall goals so you end up with the best results.

We offer Laser Hair Removal through our medical staff, but are willing to share our experience with you before making your decision. Enfuse Mespa has registered medical staff on handto assist you with your spa choice.

So if you’re looking for hair removal services, read up on each of our methods to help you decide what’ll be the most effective service for you.

Waxing

We’ve all probably had some kind of experience with waxing, whether it’s getting your bikini area done for swimsuit season or getting rid of that unwanted facial hair. Tons of our clients start by searching for “waxing in Chicago” (or wherever their locale is) when they’re looking for hair removal services, because waxing is simple, effective,it can be slightly more comfortable than other hair-removal methods.

Guys who like to keep a bare chest will often go with waxing services because it’s a relatively easy and simple solution that’s preferable to shaving. Waxing is great because it removes your hair from the root—thin strips of either hot or cool wax (depending on the product and skin type) are layered on the skin and quickly removed when the wax dries.

Waxing is only a semi-permanent solution to hair removal. Again, it removes the hair from the root without damaging the follicles, so hair will begin to grow back a couple weeks to months.

Laser

Laser is also a process that requires the consultation of a physician or a highly trained technician—again, both of which are on staff at Le Soleil. Laser tends to be less painful than electrolysis and actually doesn’t do as much damage to the hair follicle—rather, the laser process will heat up targeted melanin near the hair follicles in order to prevent regrowth.

As of now, laser treatments for the most part aren’t using real lasers technically, but rather sharp, focused light that is absorbed in dark melanin much quicker than the light tones of skin. Laser treatment is becoming the most trusted method for prolonged hair removal. The method avoids s log of the prolonged pain of electrolysis and waxing, while providing a long term solution.

For more questions or consultation, check out our physicians who perform laser treatments and electrolysis or contact a spa representative today to hear more about our services and schedule appointments!

For smoothing wrinkles, sculpting lips, and improving other facial features, Restylane injections are a growing favorite in the Chicago Area.

Approved by the FDA in December 2003, Restylane can produce positive results on facial wrinkles, particularly around the mouth and nose. Another benefit is the long-lasting results, as the effects of Restylane treatments can last six months or more.

What Areas of the Face Can Be Treated with Restylane?
The hyaluronic acid in Restylane can be used to improve the contour of facial skin and to reduce wrinkles, folds, scars, and other facial skin depressions.

Common uses for Restylane filler include:
•	Wrinkle correction
•	Diminishing worry lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines at corners of the mouth, and smoker’s lines
•	Lip enhancement
•	Reducing the severity of nasolabial folds
•	Chin augmentation
•	Filling cheek depressions
•	Redefining lip border
•	Softening acne scars

Other common uses for Restylane filler include:
•	Filling hollows under the eyes
•	Creating a temporary eyebrow lift
•	Correcting facial depressions caused by fat loss
•	Softening the appearance of jowls

The Restylane Procedure
Restylane injection is usually performed with local anesthesia, especially if the lip is being treated. Since Restylane contains no lidocaine like collagen, patients may experience some pain and discomfort from the needle during injection.

Depending upon the extent of the treatment, the procedure can take from a few minutes up to 30 minutes. Patients return home shortly after the procedure. Restylane is a clear liquid gel, a non-animal-based hyaluronic acid (a natural sugar compound).

Step One:
The doctor may first select one or more injection points for each location to be treated. Antiseptic is also applied.
Step Two:
The doctor will then identify the correct amount of Restylane to be used.
Step Three:
The Restylane filler is then injected beneath the skin. Hyaluronic acid in the filler adheres to the skin as the water contained in the acid helps to retain volume under the skin’s surface. The acid acts as a magnet for water, which helps to preserve the renewed volume of the skin.

Skin Care Tips for Dry Fall Skin

It happens every year: summer winds down and the cool weather slowly makes its way in. As hard as it can be to pack away those shorts and summer dresses, it feels good to drag out the sweaters and the jeans.

Don’t forget though, just because your jeans and sweaters cover your skin doesn’t mean that you can take a break on your skin regimen. Proper care can mean the difference between healthy skin and dry flaky skin.

Smart Skin Move #1: Exfoliate

Summer spent in the sun can make your skin appear dull. Exfoliation can remove the dull outer layer of skin, and unclog pores. Exfoliate a couple times a week with an exfoliating cleanser or with Clarisonic.

Another exfoliation option: Microdermabrasion or chemical peels, done with Bari our aesthetician. These procedures are more effective and quicker at removing the superficial dead layer of the skin.

Smart Skin Move #2: Switch cleansers

Your skin was probably oilier than usual in the summer, due to heat and humidity, so a deeper-cleansing face wash was in order. But come fall, when the heat begins to disappear, you need a gentler cleanser. Look for a non-soap product, which removes dirt and impurities but doesn’t strip your skin’s natural oils. Try a toner if you tend to be oily in the T-zone area after you cleanse.

Smart Skin Move #3: Add moisturizer

Whether you used only your sunscreen or skipped moisturizer altogether in the summer, you’ll need to add this product back into your routine in the fall. Choose a basic moisturizer which contains potent anti oxidants and rich emollients to protect, moisturize and soothe dry, tender skin. These ingredients neutralize the damaging toxins from the sun, and can help prevent further damage. Even during the fall/winter days, continue to apply sunscreen as your everyday moisturizer.

Smart Skin Move #4: Try eye cream

Older skin is prone to showing fine lines and a crepey texture around the eyes. And sun exposure exacerbates these problems. An eye treatment can help smooth the eye area again. Look for a product containing hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that effectively holds moisture onto the skin.

Smart Skin Move #5: Combat brown spots

Post-summer, you may notice more dark spots on your face. These spots are signs of sun damage-plus, they make you look older. To help remove them, try a bleaching cream containing the ingredient hydroquinone. Bleaching creams work by slowing the production of pigment deep in the skin; they usually take a minimum of six weeks to work. While there are several bleaching creams available over the counter, you’ll have better effects with a prescription cream. That’s because OTC bleaching products contain very small (read: generally ineffective) percentages of their active ingredients.

Smart Skin Move #6: Get a skin check-up

With over 50,000 new cases of melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer, diagnosed each year, fall is the perfect time to schedule a skin check with Dr. Evansy. This is especially crucial if you spent your summer in the sun, as moles can change and become abnormal quickly. Dr. Evans can thoroughly examine your skin, looking for abnormalities and suspicious moles, so you can clear up any possible problems before they become serious.

Schedule an appointment for a skin evaluation and Dr. Evans will customize a skin care regimen that is right for you! Check out our products Our Products Page

Today’s SmartLipo customers are increasingly concerned about SmartLipo recovery time, the nature of the surgery, and the results. Approved by the FDA, SmartLipo is a laser-assisted liposuction procedure, which has proved to be successful in treating people who have a problem with excessive fat deposits.

SmartLipo is highly effective for removing those stubborn fat deposits from targeted areas of the body including abdomen, face, neck, back, chin, hips, knees, buttocks, saddle bags, love handles, and more.

Faster Recovery with Less Risk of Complications

Only local anesthesia is required, which means fewer risks and side effects. Minor bruising, swelling and numbness occur directly after the SmartLipo procedure, but this is minimal. Depending on the procedure performed, you will be asked to wear a support garment for several days after the surgery.

The recovery time might vary from person to person and from procedure to procedure. To recover from traditional liposuction, it may take weeks, or even months. But patients undergoing the SmartLipo procedure need only lesser recovery time and often return to routine activities and work within a few days. Normally, the surgeon advises a day or two of rest. Recovery time will be longer, if large amounts of fat are to be removed with SmartLipo. It is always better to avoid strenuous sports for at least two weeks. You will also be scheduled for recovery check-ups, because professional monitoring improves your chance of receiving best body contouring results.

Choose Your Surgeon Wisely to Get Desired Outcomes

If you decide to go ahead with the SmartLipo treatment, it is important to choose a plastic surgeon you are comfortable with. An experienced and talented plastic surgeon will be able to provide you with all information regarding the SmartLipo surgical process, treatment duration, recovery time, and the expected benefits in full detail.

Smart Liposuction – Chicago and Wicker Park SmartLipo offers safe and efficacious SmartLipo treatments at our AAASF (American Association Ambulatory Surgical Facilities) accredited center.
